Fabulous New Kitchen Designs for the Modern Day Family

Over the last two decades we have seen a major change in kitchen styles and designs. Kitchen designers and manufacturers are working in close partnership to create fabulous kitchens with the modern day family in mind. These new style kitchens are now well sort after by many homeowners, making kitchen renovations and kitchen remodelling the most popular home improvement project of all time.

Today’s kitchen designs are created to give a cosy, homely feel and provide a multi-functional room, where the entire family can gather to partake in many different activities, whether sharing food preparation tasks, dining, reviewing daily news, relaxing or socialising.

The ideas and functions of these new kitchen designs is to utilise the whole area of the original kitchen more effectively to gain the most from this room. They are largely constructed to create more space and do so by producing a layout that is more sleek and streamline. One clever method often seen is the encasing of larger appliances within cabinets exteriors and concealing them behind kitchen cabinet doors. This immediately gives the impression of having lots more storage space whilst giving the kitchen a neat and stylish finish and appearance.

Adequate and sufficient storage space can be found in the form of low level cabinets, large drawers, wall units, larders and central island with storage underneath. Being able to put the majority of utensils, jars, pots and pans out of view presents a kitchen that is neat and ‘clutter-free’. Worktops are therefore clear and available for the purpose of preparing food or displaying much smaller, useful appliances such as a coffee machine, decorative ornaments like a cookbook stand or a vase of flowers. Similarly, hi-fi’s and/or ipods as well as TV’s (mounted on a wall) can often now found on displayed in this area as family members choose to spend more quality time in this room.

Creative use of natural materials like glass, solid wood, stone, granite, and other manmade materials make this room easy to clean and maintain. This is exactly what is required for a room which is constantly in use. Having new lighting will contribute to the whole social experience. Create an abundance of light during food preparation and dining with family, and opt for softer lighting to change the mood when relaxing and enjoying quiet time. All of these subtle finishing touches can make the new kitchen design more dynamic and beautiful, smooth to the touch and aesthetically delightful.

Whatever your choice in kitchen design, whether you opt for a complete kitchen renovation or a kitchen makeover, today’s kitchen designers and manufacturers understand what is required to help you achieve the kitchen of your dream.

What Your Kitchen Furniture Needs

Are you planning to get new furniture units for your kitchen, or plan to keep the old ones? Either way, you have to ensure that their presence is safe for you and for the people in your home especially the children. Even the mere replacement of kitchen cupboard doors should have safety precautions.

Accidents often occur because owners do not really know the basic things that they should consider when getting new or keeping old kitchen furniture units. To make sure that you are doing the right thing, consider the following things:

1. Rubber protectors

If your furniture unit has sharp angles, consider using rubber protectors. They are those which you see in hardware shops and other home and decorating stores in Lshape and made of rubber. They are to be attached on the corners of the furniture so anyone that could bump into it would not get hurt.

When your furniture units are next to delicate structures, for example, wooden floors, rubber protectors can also be used. There are those which are made just to stick on your furniture so that the whole structure of the units would not collide with the structure next to it.

2. Locks

Locks are very helpful when you want to keep your kitchen goods secure. However, we often miss them. There are locks which are very easy to break into. There are also locks with very weak keys, and they tend to break if we do not use them carefully.

Consider strong and durable locks for your kitchen. These are not necessarily to protect your goods for burglars because they are not that attractive to them, but from kids who would try to use tools just to open them.

3. Fasteners

Whether you are located near a fault line or in a very peaceful community, furniture fasteners are needed to make sure that your furniture units, such as tall and hanging cabinets do not fall onto someone. Falling may be resulted by earthquake, a simple movement of things in the area, or when even a small force is exerted to make it happen.

Kids surely are very attracted to tall cabinets since they can climb onto those. Your furniture should be attached strongly to the wall when it happens. These fasteners are available in hardware stores and should be strongly installed on the wall. Thus, you may need a professional to help you with it.

Methods that Can Prolong Your Kitchen Replacement Doors Use

It would be very frustrating if you have to frequently buy kitchen replacement doors just because the previous one gets busted. Considering the cost implications it would have on your part, you would probably like to trim it down further to accommodate other expenditures. This also means that you have to rely on effective measures to do so.

Speaking of solutions, the best way to keep them serviceable is through proper maintenance. Most DIY methodologies would tell you to do this and that, but the fact that it gets quite confusing at times leads to the actual problem. Rather than taking your time to understand each of them, you can still rely on the following instead:

1. Regular kitchen clean-up
When greases and oils sit longer on our kitchen, whether on cabinets, door, and the likes, their structure would deteriorate slowly. Stains and ugly marks could also build up which might be difficult to remove.

It is very helpful if you do a regular clean-up. Be particular on the spots where the oils and greases laid, there might be some residue that should be removed.

2. Set-up of traps for pests
Pests are called pests because it is very hard for you to stop them when they multiply. Set-up traps for pests so you can easily eliminate them. There are many traps which are easy to use available in home depots. It is better to use traps than food baits because it is annoying to hunt the dead ones. Plus, it can be very disgusting since you find them through their smell.

If there are no pests in your kitchen, secure all the possible entry points so that they could not get in. Prevention is always better than cure.

3. Quality of both workmanship and standards
Whether you are getting a new door or a new kitchen cabinet, the most important thing is quality. This means that the additional or replacement unit should have been made with excellent workmanship and have passed the standards for safety set by the government for such.

4. Material of your choosing
And last of all, if you want to get the enthusiasm to maintain your kitchen furniture and items, they should be the material of your choosing. When you like the materials very much, you will find time to take care of them and make sure that they do not go bad easily. You would then love to keep them for a long time.

How to Make Accents to Your Kitchen

You may feel like your kitchen has already gone boring. Well, there are things that you can do such as repairing broken kitchen cabinet doors, repainting walls, and also add some accents. They all have different ways to make your kitchen look better.

You do not need to get an interior designer all the time when you make some accents to your kitchen. Most of the materials can actually come from your own kitchen, or even the garage. The following are some of the things that can enhance your kitchen’s appearance:

1. Hemp ball

You have been probably charmed by hemp balls at home decorating shops and even at fancy restaurants. However, they are a little bit expensive and may not be include in your budget since it is basically not a need. But you can actually also have your own by making some.

Making a DIY hemp ball is very easy. All you have to do is find an inflatable ball; it works better than balloons since it can get a perfect shape. Wrap the hemp wire around the ball and make sure they stick to the surface using glue.

Continue doing it until you reach your desired thickness. Make sure that you leave a circular space on top of the ball; this is where you attach the bulb or holder. Let it dry for at least 48 hours. Deflate the ball and you are good to go.

2. Framed old silverware

If there are some silverware that have been passed on to you by your parents or grandparents, which you think are not that useful anymore, you can use them as accents to your kitchen instead. This is especially good if you do not have any intention on using them, or if some items are missing making it impossible to use them.

Put them on a frame, preferably one that fits the design their design. You can put it near your preparation area, or if you have a show cabinet, next to it.

3. Vegetable gourmet basket

Another great way to put some accents to your kitchen is making a vegetable gourmet basket. You can use just any basket, but wicker could be very appealing. Use all the vegetable that you think you would use throughout the week. Just be sure that there aren't rodents in the kitchen.

This vegetable gourmet basket would eliminate the use of impractical plastic fruit and vegetable decorations that supposedly demonstrating bounty, but because they aren't real, it gives negative impression.

How Much Can Kitchen Cabinet Doors Change?

Though it looks like a small thing when compared to the totality, kitchen cabinet doors contribute to the total change of the kitchen façade. As a matter of fact, there were documented testimonials from past-users who saw how advantageous they can get both in terms of their kitchen experience and workability. You can also avail of them if you embrace the changes as well.

You might find it hard to believe that such is the case. Rather than quantifying these things, you can try observing if the following conditions are met within your kitchen to know if there really was a drastic change:

1. Safety within the vicinity

Kids are really curious and they want to get hold of things that they often see you use. When they go to your kitchen they would be able to see a lot of items that may pose danger to the, such as knives, cleaning solutions, and many more. Surely you do not want kids to be put at risk so you better have reliable storage unit.

You can say that one storage unit such as cabinets is reliable when there are functioning doors and locks. You see cabinet doors are really important as those would keep things that should not be within the reach of children for safely.

2. Food preservation and consumption

Food items are usually kept in cupboards, particularly those that are canned, or dry in nature like pasta. Cupboards are expected to help preserve the availability and quality of these food items. As well as control the ins and outs.

But if cupboards do not have working doors, it would be easy for insects and rodents to go to your food items which might lead to undesirable results. Working doors for cupboards are a great way to make sure that your food supply is well-guarded.

3. Overall kitchen appeal

When you look at a kitchen with broken cabinet doors, an impression that the homeowner is not keeping his home well-maintained, and he does not care at all with his health, given that the kitchen is where food preparation is done, can be readily made.

Do not mislead people with an impression which you are not just because your cupboard doors are dysfunctional. The overall kitchen appeal would highly improve if you have your storage units equipped with good and working doors. Their hinges should not be rusted and their locks can be easily managed.

Characteristics of Kitchen Replacement Doors

As time passes, your kitchen would slowly deteriorate, which is also dependent on the extent of usage. Soon, you will find yourself changing the hinges of your cabinets, changing the faucet, changing the window’s glass, and so on. And some of the biggest units that you would have are kitchen replacement doors.

So what should you be looking for replacement doors? Is there any manufacturer that you should keep your eye on? Which should have the greatest value, quality or price? Below are some of the characteristics that we should be looking for our kitchen doors:

1. Fire resistant

Did you know that the wood material, coating, and the rest of finishing used for a single kitchen door make up its ‘fire-resistant rating’? This means that one door has the capacity to resist fire, giving you chance to save it when fire accidents happen. You will know the rating by checking with the store where you are buying it.

If possible, find other kitchen units which are fire resistant, this would make it safer for you and your family. Most fire accidents happen in the kitchen because there are many flammable materials which are placed near the stove.

2. Resistant to oils

Cleaning the kitchen is difficult especially after preparing meals which needed frying. When cooking oil boils, it goes anywhere, especially on the plate of your stove. Dusts are attracted easily which makes those oils thicker. If you leave them for a period of time, not cleaning them immediately, the build-up would cause stains which would give you a hard time removing.

If you can find doors for cabinets and the likes which material is resistant to oils, go ahead and buy it. It will give you so much advantage when cleaning. It makes maintenance less expensive as you do not need to buy tough cleaning solutions just to remove them.

3. Resistant to abrasions

Scratches and abrasions are inevitable in the kitchen because of high traffic during mornings and evenings – time to prepare meals for the family. If you have a lot of these in the kitchen, eventually the place would look ugly and dull. So find doors which are resistant to scratches and abrasions.

These materials are usually of wood like teak. They are the premium ones. Do not ever go for softwood, no matter if the design is attractive. They would not do so much favour to you in keeping its structure in good shape.
